Philly Theater Happenings

Hello there!

I’m here to give you a quick write up on Philly’s thriving theater scene just in time for the holidays! I have always been a fan of the theater, being a former competitive dancer I appreciate the importance of live performance, nothing is quite like it!

We are so lucky in this City of Brotherly Love to have a great theater district and I am so thrilled I was able to see a few shows these last few months! While two of the shows have since moved on, Shrek at Walnut Street Theater is still on until January 5th! So be sure to get your tickets! I will also give you some recommendations for shows coming up.

Shrek: Walnut Street Theater

I love Shrek. It’s weird, I know, but without fail people will tell you that after a night out nothing warms my heart more than singing “I’m a Believer” with some mozz sticks. I was thrilled with Walnut Street Theater invited me to come see the live action play. It was hilarious, fun, cheeky, and a total win. They even were able to include “I’m a Believer” which of course I joined in to sing (along with everyone else!) Huge thank you to the Walnut team.

Dates: PLAYING NOW! Until January 5th

Hamilton: Forrest Theater

Dinner before: Talula’s Garden

I mean… come on. CLASSIC! I have wanted to see this show since it hit Broadway and I truly cannot tell you how happy it made me when Hamilton come to Philadelphia. The birthplace of our nation holding such a real and fun show was truly remarkable. I loved it so much, I saw it twice! (Kind of by a stroke of luck, that was not planned) but it is a show that I could see 100 times and still not get bored.

Dates: You missed Hamilton! But Forrest Theater is now presenting Sponge-bob the Musical until Dec. 15th!

Mean Girls: Academy of Music

Lunch before: James.

I remember when this movie came out, I watched it with my cousin and every time I asked a question, she blushed hahaha. It’s one of those iconic movies that will never go out of style, just like Clueless and the performance was great! It was written by Tina Fey so it kept its originality without reciting the movie script verbatim. I went with my sister and mom and we had an awesome time!

Dates: You missed Mean Girls! But Academy of Music is holding Cirque Dreams: Holidaze from Dec. 26th-29th!

I can’t wait to see some shows this holiday season, which ones are you thinking of seeing?
